The Compatibility View Settings window will display with 'illinois.gov' entered in the 'Add this website:' text box. (If the text box is empty, type in 'illinois.gov'.) 3. Click the Add button. Illinois.gov will be added to the user Compatibility view. Click the Close button. The CITRIX Access Gateway Login screen will now display. Do you want to change your password? Change Now Not Now Not Now.
Overview
Citrix streams graphical Windows applications to remote client devices and supports various desktop and mobile operating systems. This allows students and others to access EWS Windows lab software from remote locations.
Covers
Supported client platforms include Windows, OS X, certain Linux distributions, Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. This service is designed to support the instructional mission of the college.
Features
The primary features of Remote Connections – Citrix are:
- Ability to use instructional software from remote locations, such as dorm rooms, apartments or cafes
- Content is streamed using the processing power of the server, not the client
- More computing and graphical resources than physical computer labs or clients’ personal workstations
- Ability to run Windows programs from various client operating systems, including the EWS Linux labs
- Ability to access EWS files and cloud based files
- Available 24/7 during semester, even when labs are closed
Available to
Faculty, staff, and students of Grainger College of Engineering, and any students enrolled in Grainger College of Engineering courses.
Service Hours
Requests will receive a response within one business day, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, excluding University holidays.

Service Terms
Users of this service agree to the following:
- Engineering IT has the final decision on adding new software to the service. Adding applications to Citrix requires compatibility with being virtualized, the application vendor’s licensing terms supporting the intended use of the application, and available computing resources in the Citrix infrastructure.
- Support for Linux distributions outside of the EWS Linux environment is best-effort only.

How to Connect to Citrix
Download & Install
- Download and install the Citrix Workspace application at http://www.citrix.com/go/receiver.
- Current users: Please upgrade to the newest version of the Citrix Workspace athttp://www.citrix.com/go/receiver.
Connect
VPN
If you are connecting from a wifi network other than IllinoisNet, connect to the Technology Services' Cisco VPN before using Citrix.
- Cisco VPN download and installation instructions can be found at VPN, CISCO AnyConnect, Installation Instructions Splash Page.
- For problems connecting to the Cisco VPN please contact the Technology Services Help Desk.
Access Citrix Workspace
- The first time you open Citrix Workspace, input 'citrix.engr.illinois.edu' without quotes in the server address field and click 'Add.'
- If you encounter an error, disconnect from the Cisco VPN, select the '3_TunnelAll' profile, and reconnect to the VPN.
- Select 'Finish' on the success screen.

- When the login screen appears, enter your UIUC NetID and your NetID password and click 'Log On.'

Windows |
- Select the 'Apps' tab to view all applications. Application visibility will vary based on course registration.
- Most applications will save content to your EWS home directory by default and can also save content to your local computer.
- To access your EWS home directory remotely, use the following instructions at EWS Labs, Remote access to your EWS Windows home directory
- If you encounter an error, disconnect from the Cisco VPN, select the '3_TunnelAll' profile, and reconnect to the Cisco VPN.

How to Find Newly Published Applications for Your Course
Application visibility is based on course registration and sometimes requires a manual refresh.
- Select 'Refresh Apps' in the top-right drop-down menu of Citrix Workspace
- Search for the application name under the 'Apps' tab
If you are a TA and cannot see the application, ask the instructor to update the membership of the course staff group using Instructor Tools.
